Appetizers

Easy and Healthy Appetizers Recipes

If you’re making a meal with multiple courses, or you simply fancy trying something special, appetizers are a great addition to your dinner.

We’ve got a selection of easy to make appetizers recipes, all containing healthy ingredients linked to cancer prevention, such as leafy greens, vegetables, and fruits.

Appetizers are a great way to get you or your dinner guests ready for a main course, with a tasty little dish! They are often chosen specifically to complement the flavours of your main course, almost like a teaser of what’s to come.

Aside from building excitement, appetizers have the additional benefit of helping you add different kinds of food to your meal. You can easily incorporate things like fruits and vegetables, and vitamins and minerals they contain, into your appetizers alongside your main meal.

Some appetizers are easier to make than others. You’ll want to make sure that you have all the right equipment, whether it be a specific type of pan or a slow cooker, and be sure to have all the ingredients too, of course.

To make things easier, all our recipes include a list of nutritional facts, so you can keep track of the amount of calories, fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbs, protein, and everything else.

When you check the nutritional facts, be aware that some of our appetizers may contain some ingredients which are quite different from what you are used to eating. It’s always a good idea to get advice from your doctor, specialist nurse, or dietitian before you make any changes to your diet, particularly if you are having any kind of cancer treatment.

It can sometimes be difficult to choose appetizers to start off your dinner, especially if you’re focussing on making healthy choices. However, as mentioned earlier, appetizers are actually a great way of fitting little healthy extras into your meal.

Appetizers don’t have to be boring either! Little bites like flatbreads and dips, salads and hors d’oeuvres can keep things interesting, and there are lots of options available, whatever your main course is.

We’ve got some delightful little dishes for you to choose, from balsamic glazed carrots to Moroccan kebabs with vegetables and turkey; colourful additions to any platter. In addition, lots of our recipes in our collection contain cancer fighting foods such as asparagus, kale and other delicious veggies.

In addition to choosing what kind of appetizer you like the look of, we also recommend considering what’s in the food you choose, such as the qualities shown below.

Scientific research has shown that salt can increase the chance of developing some cancers, so we’ve made sure we keep our appetizer recipes low sodium wherever possible.
