What You Need to Know about Preventing...
Endometrial (Lining of the Uterus) Cancer
What’s the Evidence?
The evidence is convincing that excess body fat is a cause of cancer of the endometrium; and excess fat around the waist in particular is also probably a cause.
This is one of the reasons AICR recommends being as lean as possible within the healthy weight range.
You can probably reduce risk of endometrial cancer by being physically active. AICR recommends being physically active for at least half an hour a day.
How Preventable is Endometrial Cancer?
AICR experts estimate that following the above advice could prevent seventy percent of endometrial cancers every year.
That's almost 33,000 cases every year. (Based on 2012 incidence data.)
What the Panel’s Judgments Mean
Convincing
strong, consistent and unlikely to change in the future
Probable
compelling but not quite strong or consistent enough to be "convincing"
Limited Evidence – Suggestive
too limited for a grade of "probable", but a general consistency in the data
Limited Evidence – No Conclusion
too inconsistent or insufficient for a definitive grade
Substantial Effect on Risk Unlikely
enough evidence to rule out a connection
