The Continuous Update Project (CUP) is an ongoing program that analyzes global research on how diet, nutrition and physical activity affect cancer risk and survival.
Developed in collaboration with and managed by the World Cancer Research Fund International, the Report is widely regarded as a trusted and authoritative scientific resource. The report has quickly become a valued reference for leading researchers and healthcare professionals, and its findings are used to inform numerous guidelines and policies regarding cancer prevention and survival.
How CUP Works
The CUP is constantly refreshed with research from around the world. As researchers publish new studies their work gets added to the database, they are systematically reviewed and the research community has access to the most up-to-date body of scientific evidence. An independent panel of experts then evaluate and interpret the evidence to make judgments and conclusions for cancer prevention.
The Database
The CUP database is kept up to date with relevant papers from randomized controlled trials and cohort studies published for 17 cancers and breast cancer survivors. The database now contains nearly 10,000 publications on these cancers, including publications from the Third Expert Report.

Cancer Prevention Recommendations
In addition to supplying healthcare professionals with a treasure trove of resources, AICR also uses the Continuous Update Project’s research to help families and communities live healthier everyday lives. We’ve used the same research that powers our CUP reports to create ten recommendations for cancer prevention. By following these evidence-based guidelines, you can significantly reduce your cancer risk.
