Dr. Eckert examined the regulation of cervical cells by retinoids and aimed to elucidate the mechanisms by which retinoids regulate insulin growth factor binding proteins (IGFBPs). Dr. Eckert hypothesized that retinoids may act as chemopreventive agents by increasing IGFBP-3 levels, which in turn mediate the inhibitory effects of retinoids on cervical cancer cell proliferation.
