Dr. Golubic has demonstrated that some nutritionally relevant fatty acids might activate the cellular p21 ras (c-ras) proteins and promote cancer development. In this study he investigated the possibility that the tumor-enhancing effects of omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids and the tumor inhibitory effects of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids may be a consequence of the differential regulation of two important proteins (GAP and neurofibromin) which regulate c-ras.
