The objective of this study was to test the hypothesis that one or more circulating factors present in the serum of cancer patients are responsible for cachexia. It was proposed that these factors alter adipocyte biology and fat metabolism, resulting in loss of body fat. The project was important since there are few clues as to the molecular basis of cachexia.
