Life had always been good for Melinda Triplett. She traveled the world for United Airlines, and spent her career touring exotic destinations.
Yet no matter where she traveled, she always knew there was no place like her home in Tiburon, California, with her beloved husband, James.
When James was diagnosed with prostate cancer though, Melissa knew that she was about to go on a new journey—which likely wouldn’t involve jetsetting.
As they started meeting doctors and hearing about treatment options, Melissa wondered what they could do, on their own, to aid in James’ treatment and recovery. As a casual supporter of the AICR, Melissa knew that James’ everyday decisions could impact his health—but what exactly did that mean?
Overnight, Melissa went from having a passing familiarity with AICR’s recommendations for cancer prevention to following its recommendations.
As a couple, Melissa and James adopted AICR’s recommendations and started following the New American Plate diet. They also started exercising more, taking long walks, and getting in some brisk rounds of golf.
According to Melissa, life has transformed. James’ cancer has not spread, and he’s had an easier time managing his diabetes and insulin.
“He has a great outlook,” says Melissa. “Taking charge of his health has really helped him—and it’s helped me, too! We really love the walks together, I’m cooking more – making new, healthy dishes, and I really feel good about my health.”
