Life had always been good for Melinda Triplett. She traveled the world for United Airlines, and spent her career touring exotic destinations.
Yet no matter where she traveled, she always knew there was no place like her home in Tiburon, California, with her beloved husband, James.
When James was diagnosed with prostate cancer though, Melinda knew that she was about to go on a new journey—which likely wouldn’t involve much traveling.
As they started meeting doctors and hearing about treatment options, Melinda wondered what they could do, on their own, to aid in James’ treatment and recovery. As a casual supporter of the AICR, Melinda knew that James’ everyday decisions could impact his health—but what exactly did that mean?
Overnight, Melinda went from having a passing familiarity with AICR’s recommendations for cancer prevention to following its recommendations.
As a couple, Melinda and James adopted AICR’s recommendations and started following the New American Plate diet. They also started exercising more, taking long walks, and getting in some brisk rounds of golf.
According to Melinda, life has transformed. James’ cancer has not spread and he’s had an easier time managing his diabetes and insulin.
“He has a great outlook,” says Melinda. “Taking charge of his health has really helped him and it’s helped me, too! We really love the walks together, I’m cooking more – making new, healthy dishes and I really feel good about my health.”
