About the Conference:

The AICR Annual Research Conference is a unique forum that brings together researchers and clinicians for a two-day program that is dedicated to increasing knowledge, stimulating research and promoting prevention and treatment of cancer through nutrition, physical activity and weight management.

Who Should Attend:

Basic scientists, clinical investigators, epidemiologists, dietitians, nutritionists, policy makers and other health professionals interested in food, nutrition, physical activity and weight management in relation to cancer.

Poster Abstract Submission Guidelines

Documents for download:

Share your research on food, nutrition, physical activity and cancer by presenting a poster. All posters must be related to cancer, with a focus on food, nutrition, physical activity, or overweight/obesity. The deadline to submit a poster abstract has passed.

Poster abstract submission fee (with or without scholarship application): $45

Poster abstracts must be submitted through our online abstract submission service. A non-refundable processing fee of $45 will be charged for each abstract submission. Abstracts must be paid for electronically and in full at the time of submission.

A limited number of scholarships for registration and conference hotel accommodations will be available for doctoral students in nutrition and cancer who are studying in the United States. Scholarship applicants are required to submit a poster abstract with their scholarship application and scholarship recipients are required to present a poster for the conference. The deadline to submit a scholarship application with poster abstract has passed.

Accreditation

Continuing Medical Education
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of The Obesity Society and the American Institute for Cancer Research. The Obesity Society is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Continuting Professional Education
This activity has been approved by the Commission on Dietetic Registration for 14.5 Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) Continuing Professional Education (CPE) units.

Refund Policy

Refunds (less a $75 processing fee) will be made for cancellations received by October 18, 2013. After October 18, no refunds will be granted.

Certificate of Attendance

A certificate of attendance will be available on request for all registered participants.

Passport and Visa Information

Delegates are responsible for obtaining the required travel documents for entry into the United States. Depending on your nationality, you may need a valid passport with a visa to enter the United States. Delegates are encouraged to contact the United States embassy closest to them for up-to-date travel guidelines.

Invitation Letters

Invitation letters to assist with visa applications for the United States can be provided once the following information has been submitted:

  1. Proof of payment of fees
  2. Full name
  3. Work and home address
  4. Date of birth
  5. Passport number

If you require an invitation letter please email us at researchconference@aicr.org. Visa applications are not the responsibility of AICR. Delegates are encouraged to submit their applications to the appropriate embassy well in advance of the conference.

About the Hotel

The 2013 AICR Annual Research Conference will be hosted at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda, conveniently located just outside the Nation's Capital. The hotel is located atop the Red Line Metro Station within walking distance to Bethesda's 200 restaurants, performing art spaces, galleries, theaters and shops. The hotel is just 1 Metro stop from the National Institutes of Health Campus for those attendees who wish to visit the campus on business or pleasure.

Hotel guests will enjoy complimentary WiFi Internet access in their rooms as well as in all meeting spaces. Access to the 24-hour Stay Fit™ gym at the Hyatt is complimentary for hotel guests. The state of the art facility is a perfect way for conference attendees to incorporate physical activity into their visit while at the hotel.

Hotel Reservations

A block of rooms has been reserved for conference participants at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda. Rates are $185 per night (plus 13% state and local occupancy tax). The hotel has agreed to honor the special rate for attendees who arrive up to three days before or depart up to three days after the conference, subject to availability.

Travel Information

By Metro:

The Hyatt Regency Bethesda is located right above the Bethesda Metro Station on the Washington, DC Metro's Red Line. When exiting the metro, simply take the escalator to the street level and the hotel will be at the top.

By Train:

If you take the train to Union Station you can take a taxi to the hotel or you can follow the directions for the Red Line on Metro above, in the direction of Shady Grove.

By Air:

The hotel is conveniently located near three major airports.

  • Reagan National Airport (DCA) is the closest to the hotel and taxi fares are approximately $45-$55 one-way.  You can also take the Blue Line metro from the airport to the Metro Center stop and transfer to the Red line in the direction of Shady Grove.
  • Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) is located about 45 minutes away. Taxi fares are approximately $55-$65 one-way.
  • Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) is located about 45 minutes away. Taxi fares are approximately $65-$85 one-way. If you arrive or depart on a week-day, you can also take the MARC train from BWI to Union Station, and then take the metro to the hotel.
