About the Conference:

The Annual Research Conference is a unique forum that brings together researchers and clinicians for a three-day program that is dedicated to increasing knowledge, stimulating research and promoting prevention and treatment of cancer through nutrition, physical activity and weight management.

Who Should Attend:

Basic scientists, clinical investigators, epidemiologists, dietitians, nutritionists, policy makers and other health professionals interested in food, nutrition, physical activity and weight management in relation to cancer.

Poster Abstract Submission Guidelines

Documents for download:

Share your research on food, nutrition, physical activity and cancer by presenting a poster. All posters must be related to cancer, with a focus on food, nutrition, physical activity or overweight/obesity. The deadline to submit a poster abstract has passed.

Poster Abstract Submission Fee: $45

Poster abstracts must be submitted through our online abstract submission service. A non-refundable processing fee of $45 will be charged for each abstract submission. Abstracts must be paid for electronically and in full at the time of submission.

Poster Award

If you are a post-doctoral scholar, you may elect to have your poster entered in the John A. Milner poster competition. You must indicate during the poster abstract submission process that you would like your poster to be considered. Posters will be judged during the poster sessions at the conference and poster prizes of $500 will be awarded during the closing plenary session.

Conference Scholarship Submission Guidelines

Documents for download:

A limited number of scholarships for registration and conference hotel accommodations will be available for doctoral students in nutrition and cancer who are studying in the United States. Scholarship applicants are required to submit a poster abstract with their scholarship application and scholarship recipients are required to present a poster for the conference. The deadline to submit a scholarship application has passed.

*Students must be prepared to show a full-time student ID at registration. Post-doctoral scholars do not qualify for the student rate.
**One-Day registration is for those who plan to attend only one day of the conference. Those who plan to attend more than one day of the conference must select Full Registration.

Registration Includes:

  • Admission to the conference sessions
  • Continental breakfasts, refreshment breaks, lunches, networking and poster receptions
  • Delegate bag, including the program and abstract book
  • Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) Continuing Professional Education (CPE) units.

Refund Policy

Refunds (less a $75 processing fee) will be made available for cancellations received by Wednesday, October 1, 2014. After October 1, no refunds will be granted.


This activity has been approved by the Commission on Dietetic Registration for 16.5 Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) Continuing Professional Education (CPE) units.

Certificate of Attendance

A certificate of attendance will be available on request for all registered participants.

Passport and Visa Information

Delegates are responsible for obtaining the required travel documents for entry into the United States. Depending on your nationality, you may need a valid passport with a visa to enter the United States. Delegates are encouraged to contact the United States embassy closest to them for up-to-date travel guidelines.

Invitation Letters

Invitation letters to assist with visa applications for the United States can be provided once the following information has been submitted:

  1. Proof of payment of fees
  2. Full name
  3. Work and home address
  4. Date of birth
  5. Passport number

If you require an invitation letter please email us at Visa applications are not the responsibility of AICR. Delegates are encouraged to submit their applications to the appropriate embassy well in advance of the conference.

The 2014 AICR Annual Research Conference will be held at the Capital Hilton, conveniently located near the center of the Nation's Capital. The hotel is located just a few blocks from three different Metro stations.

Hotel Reservations

A block of rooms has been reserved for conference participants at the Capital Hilton. Rates are $239 per night (plus 14.5% state and local occupancy tax). The hotel has agreed to honor the special rate for attendees who arrive up to three days before or depart up to three days after the conference, subject to availability.

NEW: This year, we are pleased to offer all guests staying at the Capital Hilton complimentary access to MINT, a health club and spa located on the ground floor of the hotel. All conference guests staying at the hotel will be able to experience MINT's state-of-the-art gym equipment, classes, and will receive a discount on all spa services.

Travel Information

By Metro:

The Capital Hilton is located a few blocks from three different Metro Stations:

  • Farragut North (Red Line)
    Walk south on 16th St. Turn right at K St. Walk two blocks to Connecticut Ave. and turn right. The stop is between K and L Streets.
  • Farragut West (Blue & Orange Lines)
    Walk south on 16th St. Turn right at I St. The stop is two blocks away on the west side of Farragut Square on 17th St.
  • McPherson Square (Blue & Orange Lines)
    Walk south on 16th St. Turn left at I St. The stop is two blocks away at 15th St.

By Train:

If you take the train to Union Station you can take a taxi to the hotel or you can follow the directions for the Red Line on Metro above, in the direction of Shady Grove.

By Air:

The hotel is conveniently located near three major airports.

  • Reagan National Airport (DCA) is the closest to the hotel and taxi fares are approximately $20 one-way.  You can also take the Blue Line metro from the airport to the Farragut North or McPherson Square stops (see above for directions from the metro stops to the hotel).
  • Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) is located about 50 minutes away. Taxi fares are approximately $60 one-way.
  • Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) is located about an hour away. Taxi fares are approximately $65 one-way. If you arrive or depart on a week-day, you can also take the MARC train from BWI to Union Station, and then take the metro to the hotel.
