Ability of n-3 Fatty Acids to Influence Colon Tumor Formation by Modulating Estrogen Action

Project Description

This study examined the relationship between a fish oil diet and estradiol using an estrogen receptor (ER)-beta knockout animal model and investigated the mechanisms of cross-talk between PPAR-gamma and ER-beta using human colon cancer cells in culture. Results of the study were expected to increase understanding of the mechanisms of omega-3 fatty acids in reducing risk of premenopausal women to colon cancer.
