WASHINGTON, DC – The American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) and PROSHRED® Security (Proshred) will host their fifth annual nationwide “Shred Cancer” event on Saturday, June 2, 2018. Community members are invited to bring their personal documents to be securely shredded while raising funds for cancer research around prevention.
The event will be held throughout the country at 28 Proshred locations. Event times will vary by location.
Individuals may bring up to five boxes of documents to one of PROSHRED® Security’s on-site shredding trucks to safely and securely dispose of unwanted personal documents. The event is free to attend and a suggested donation of $5 per box will go directly towards funding AICR’s cancer research and education programs. Several locations will host additional events and raffles.
“Generous support from millions of individual Americans—and not government or industry grants—have allowed AICR to fund emerging research and to continue our programs for educating the public about what practical steps we all can take every day to live in a world with less cancer,” said AICR Senior Vice President of Development Mary Beth Healy, “The funds raised by the ProShred community makes a significant impact on the health of millions of Americans.”
Jeffrey Hasham, Chief Executive Officer of PROSHRED® Security, commented, “We at ProShred are extremely privileged to have the opportunity to contribute to the crucial research conducted by AICR. Over the last 30 years AICR’s work has led to increased awareness between diet, exercise and the prevention of many cancers. It is our hope that our collective efforts across the ProShred system will raise awareness and money for the work AICR conducts. We hope to see everyone on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at our Nationwide Shred Event, together we can Shred Cancer.”
Started in 2014 on National Cancer Survivors’ Day, Proshred has contributed over $130,000 to cancer research. This year AICR and PROSHRED® Security have set a goal to raise $50,000 for research.
