Annual “Shred Cancer” Event Aims to Raise $75,000 for Vital Cancer Research

WASHINGTON, DC – The American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) and PROSHRED® Security (“Proshred”) will host their third annual, nationwide “Shred Cancer” event on Saturday, June 4.  Community members are invited to bring their personal documents which will be securely shred while raising funds for cancer research and awareness around cancer prevention.

The event will be held at 26 Proshred locations throughout the country from 8am – 11am, local time.

Individuals may bring up to five boxes of documents to one of PROSHRED® Security’s on-site shredding trucks to safely and securely dispose of unwanted personal documents. The event is free to attend and a suggested donation of $5 per box will go directly towards funding AICR’s cancer research program.

Participants will receive cancer-prevention recipes, healthy lifestyle tips and other materials from AICR as part of their education outreach program.

“AICR has been supporting innovative cancer research for over 30 years,” said AICR Senior Vice President of Development Mary Beth Healy, “The funds raised by PROSHRED® Security and the Shred Cancer events will help us to continue those efforts.”

Mr.  Jeffrey Hasham, the Chief Executive Officer of PROSHRED®  Security commented, “The work AICR does is very near and dear to the Proshred family. We believe that the research AICR sponsors makes a difference in the prevention of this disease.  It is our hope that through the efforts of our franchisees and employees that we can eventually Shred Cancer.”

First held in 2014 on National Cancer Survivors Day, past events have contributed nearly $100,000 to cancer research. This year AICR and PROSHRED® Security have set a goal to raise $75,000 for research.

Specific event locations and other details are available at aicr.org/shredcancer.
