Annual “Shred Cancer” Event Aims to Raise $50,000 for Cancer Prevention Research

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) and PROSHRED® Security (ProShred) will host their sixth annual, nationwide “Shred Cancer” event on Saturday, June 1. Community members are invited to bring their personal documents to be securely shredded while raising funds for cancer research around prevention.

The event will be held throughout the country: 28 ProShred locations are expected to participate. Event times will vary by location.

Individuals may bring up to five boxes of documents to one of PROSHRED® Security’s on-site shredding trucks to safely and securely dispose of unwanted personal documents. The event is free to attend and a suggested donation of $5 per box will go directly towards funding AICR’s cancer research and education programs. Several locations will host additional events and raffles.

“Recently AICR launched our “Blueprint to Beat Cancer,” a comprehensive analysis of the research on lifestyle factors and cancer preventionIt is the most reliable cancer prevention advice currently available and shows that following AICR’s 10 Cancer Prevention Recommendations and other health-related choices can prevent nearly half of all cancer diagnoses.” said AICR Senior Vice President, Development, Mary Beth Healy. “AICR’s partnership with the ProShred community played a vital role in our most recent report and continues to make a significant impact on the health of millions of Americans.”

Jeffrey Hasham, Chief Executive Officer of ProShred, commented, “Every year we see AICR expand their research on cancer prevention and we are extremely happy to contribute to the cause. This year we are planning on celebrating our 6th anniversary in hope to continue to raise awareness and funds for the work AICR conducts. We hope to see everyone on Saturday June 1, 2019 at our Nationwide Shred Cancer events and together we can Shred Cancer.”

First held in 2014 on National Cancer Survivors Day, past events have contributed over $130,000 to cancer research. This year AICR and PROSHRED® Security have set a goal to raise $50,000 for cancer prevention.
