AICR Spotlight: Ethel Kunnes

Ethel Kunnes is a former dietitian who loves to cook, and it’s an experience that she enjoys sharing with her grandson, Adin. They are both passionate about nutrition and healthy eating. Ethel proudly boasts how years ago Adin encouraged his classmates to start a vegetable garden at school. The parents of the students were so surprised to see their kids learning and interest in the garden that they soon started their own community garden. Today Ethel lives happily with her dog in a retirement community of more than 400 people, which provides many opportunities to be active. She’s putting her passion to good use by serving on the community’s food committee to help plan menus and cook.

Like many AICR supporters, Ethel has been touched by cancer. She has had many friends and family who have had cancer, and her mother died of cancer. Ethel has supported AICR for more than 30 years because cancer research is key to cancer prevention and survivorship. Ethel says, “I feel good knowing that I am supporting an organization that is helping people prevent cancer.” She likes that AICR keeps people informed and keeps the message simple. “Otherwise, people wouldn’t follow it,” she says. Her advice is to enjoy food but in moderation.

Ethel joined AICR’s Monthly Donor Program in 2002. She became a monthly donor for three simple reasons: it was easy; she didn’t have to think about making a gift every year; and by doing it on a credit card, she didn’t have to write checks anymore.

Become a Cancer Research Partner like Ethel and make a significant impact in the fight against cancer every single day. You can support cancer prevention research that dramatically reduces the letters asking for additional money and provides a consistent level of support for our critical work.

By becoming a Cancer Research Partner through a monthly gift to AICR:

•    You will receive bulletins and updates on AICR’s research and education programs.

You and AICR both benefit when you become a Cancer Research Partner!  The predictable flow of monthly contributions enables us to commit to more research grants and education programs, but you’re still in complete control of your giving.  You can change, pause or stop your gift at any time.
