Integration of immunology and microbiology into epidemiologic research on early-onset colorectal cancer for precision oncology

Research Type: colorectal, Colorectal Cancer

Project Description

The rate of new cases of early-onset colorectal cancer, before age 50, is increasing globally for unknown reasons. This project will use tumor tissue, from early-onset colorectal cancer patients from existing large-scale population studies, to examine how factors such as the immune system and the gut bacteria differ in early onset and later onset disease. It will also assess how these factors are modified by obesity, physical activity and aspirin in patients with early-onset colorectal cancer to identify potentially effective prevention strategies.
