Cancer Chemoprevention by Green Tea Polyphenols

Key words:

green tea, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

Research Institution:

University Hospitals of Cleveland

Hasan Mukhtar

Project Description:

Dr. Mukhtar sought to determine whether extracts from green tea might prevent chemicals from causing tumors of the skin, lung, and forestomach of mice. While he fed the mice the tea extracts for potential protection, he exposed the mice to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). These are chemicals in the environment that are known to cause cancer.
