JOHN McCALLA
CHAIRMAN
John is the Chairman of the Board of Directors and a member of the Executive Committee. He also serves as the Secretary of the Institute’s Board.
Starting at an early age, he developed a keen interest in physical activity and nutrition’s role in disease prevention. He has developed exercise, health, and nutrition programs for clients, both on an individual and corporate level. He has created and presented motivational speeches on the importance of physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle.
John has decades of senior-level management experience in business development, marketing, and sales.
His expert knowledge and life-long interest in the role that physical activity and a healthy lifestyle play in disease prevention will be invaluable as AICR works to spread its cancer prevention message.
Marilyn Gentry
Vice Chairman
Marilyn is the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, a member of the Executive Committee, and a member of the Audit Committee. She has served as AICR’s President for more than four decades. She is also the President and a founder of World Cancer Research Fund International, a non-profit organization that leads and unifies a global network of cancer prevention charities, including AICR. Other members of this network are based in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
She has been instrumental in bringing the concept that you can reduce your cancer risk by adopting a healthy lifestyle–once an outlandish and almost heretical suggestion–to the backbone of mainstream public health and cancer prevention efforts worldwide.
In her various roles, she continues to champion the latest and most authoritative scientific research from around the world so that people can make informed lifestyle choices to reduce their cancer risk.
Frank Jackson Hill
Frank is a Board Member and Chairman of the Audit Committee. He also serves as the Treasurer of AICR.
He is a practicing accountant and became involved in palliative care and the growth of the modern hospice movement early in his career. The combination of financial management and health care led to an interest in health economics and in particular, the value of prevention in health care systems.
Frank has published papers on the cost of hospice care, on the management of voluntary organizations and on financial reporting by charities. He has maintained his interest in palliative care as a leading member of a research team evaluating the impact of end-of-life care on health and social care services.
Frank shares his expert knowledge in the fields of charitable accounting and health economics with the American Institute for Cancer Research.
Melvin Hutson
Melvin served for more than four decades as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Although he stepped down as Chairman, he continues to serve on the Board of Directors. He is also a member of the Audit Committee.
Melvin shares his legal perspective with the Board and senior management on a variety of matters relating to the successful operation of AICR. Melvin has been committed to helping the American Institute for Cancer Research share its knowledge on cancer prevention across the country.
CAITLIN MAHONEY
Caitlin is a member of the Board of Directors. Caitlin brings experience with patient care, global health, and public health nutrition to the AICR Board of Directors. She began her career as a pediatric nurse, where she saw how lifestyle interventions, as well as evidence-based care, can shape long-term health. That early experience deepened her belief that the environments around us–our communities, food systems, and policies–play a defining role in our well-being.
Her work with the World Food Program focused on nutrition-centered programs across multiple countries, helping to support health at scale. Today, Caitlin focuses on improving food environments for young people through a youth-led campaigning organization. She’s especially passionate about how research and communication come together, making science understandable, relevant, and powerful enough to inspire better population health outcomes.
Joseph Swartz
Joseph is a member of the Board of Directors. He has had nearly four decades of senior level management experience with accounting and auditing firms, mortgage lending and servicing institutions, international banks, and real estate companies.
He has served as the Chairman of the Association of Due Diligence and Risk Managers.
He shares his expertise in the areas of finance and accounting to help grow the American Institute for Cancer Research and spread its message of cancer prevention.
Ted Watson
Ted is a member of the Board of Directors. He is a senior product manager and a member of the product management team for a major interactive software company. He has an undergraduate degree in computer science and was part of the Tech MBA Program, specializing in product management, entrepreneurship and innovation, at New York University. He has held various senior level roles over the last decade in product management, including designing, building, testing, and delivery. He has experience working in the non-profit sector and currently volunteers as the Chairman of the Grants Committee of a local non-profit organization.
His understanding of and experience with the use of artificial intelligence will be critical as the American Institute for Cancer Research strives to find new ways to engage with the public and spread its message of cancer prevention.
