Thankful for the Ability to Give |
As we near Thanksgiving, the staff at AICR is particularly thankful for the support of the many individuals who make our work possible. Some, like long time supporter Doreen Chadborne, are thankful for the ability to give.
When Doreen Chadbourne was a little girl growing up in British Columbia, Canada, she and her family did not have much money; but they were touched by others’ generosity. When they did have a few cents to spare, her mother taught her the importance of helping those less fortunate. Doreen has never forgotten those lessons.
Doreen and her husband Bill worked 12-16 hour days to build their commercial equipment rental business and never took a vacation. Through hard work, they were able to retire early. They enjoyed visiting national parks together in their motor home. Sadly, Bill passed away in 1994.
Doreen now travels with tour groups and has been on many exciting trips. She has over a dozen photo albums documenting her travels. She has visited South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. This year, she took a cruise to Russia and traveled there.
Doreen supports AICR because she lost six family members to cancer. Doreen says, "It makes me feel good every time I write a check to help others. I know the money is doing some good during my lifetime. I appreciate that I’m in a position to contribute.”
Doreen has also named AICR in her will, and Doreen recently funded her third gift annuity with AICR. Asked why she decided to fund gift annuities, Doreen explains, "It’s a two-way street. It helps both of us.”
Thank you, Doreen, for your generous support and inspiring thoughts. If you’d like more information on planned giving opportunities to increase the impact of your gifts, please visit our planned giving section.
