Project Title: Regulation of Colonocyte Growth and Differentiation
Research Institution: Vanderbilt University School of Medicine
State, Country: TENNESSEE
Researchers: John A. Barnad III M.D.
Year: 1994
Project Description: Dr. Barnard is investigating the mechanism by which butyrate exerts rapid and potent effects on growth and maturation of colon epithelial cells. This effect appears to be mediated through a key growth-rgulating gene c-myc. Dr. Barnard's studies will increase our understanding of the molecular mechanisms by which butyrate affects c-myc as well as the degree of maturation of the colon epithelial cells.
