Browning Recognized for Outstanding Achievement
in Nonprofit Community

WASHINGTON, DC – On January 25th, Kelly B. Browning, executive vice president and chief financial officer of the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR), was awarded the prestigious Max L. Hart Nonprofit Achievement Award by the Nonprofit Federation of the Direct Marketing Association (DMA).

The award, which recognizes outstanding achievement in the nonprofit field, was presented at the 2008 DMA Nonprofit Conference in Washington, DC.

Brian Cowart, chairman of the Nonprofit Federation Awards Committee, told the assembled luncheon crowd that DMA was honoring Browning “for his extensive contributions to the nonprofit sector, as well as for the innovation and commitment he has brought to the direct marketing community as a whole.”

Browning was introduced with warm words from professional colleagues who hailed his extensive knowledge of Byzantine postal regulations, his championing of innovative direct marketing tools and techniques, and his sterling personal character. “Kelly,” said strategic fundraising consultant Phyllis Freedman, “is a mensch.”

The award is only the latest professional recognition Browning has received. The influential trade magazine The NonProfit Times has twice named Browning to its Power and Influence Top 50, a selection of the most important figures on the nation’s nonprofit scene.

Born in Waynesville, North Carolina, Kelly Browning is a 1971 graduate of Tuscola High School and a graduate of the University of Georgia. He now resides in the Washington, DC area where AICR is headquartered.

Over the course of Browning’s tenure as AICR’s executive vice president and chief financial officer, the charity’s revenues have more than quadrupled, allowing the health charity to devote more than $85 million to innovative research conducted at universities, hospitals and research centers across the country.
