AICR Recipes

Beverages/Drinks

Whether you want something comforting or cooling, we’ve got a variety of healthy drinks recipes suitable for every occasion. Each of our recipes contains cancer fighting foods and is specifically crafted to support cancer prevention and survival.

AICRs healthy beverage recipes contain a variety of fruits, vegetables, teas, coffee, and reduced fat dairy. These ingredients are recognized as Cancer Fighting Foods and aid in preventing the development of cancer.

Added sugars including honey, agave syrup or other natural sweeteners are kept to a minimum in our healthy drink recipes. We aim to meet the National Dietary Guidelines which recommends to limit added sugars to 10% or less of total calories. Drinking sugary drinks can lead to obesity and there is strong evidence that it can increase the risk of developing at least 12 different types of cancer.

If you love our reduced sugar drinks, then you should try our reduced sugar dessert recipes. Packed with the same sweet punch as a high sugar dessert, our recipes harness natural sugars from fruits to deliver a delicious taste and huge health benefits. Why not try our recipe for peanut butter banana “ice cream” for a cooling ice cream alternative with no added sugar.

There is no one food that can protect you from cancer by itself. However, certain food types contain minerals, vitamins and phytochemicals that can lower your risk of developing many cancers.

Our healthy drink recipes are designed with cancer fighting foods in mind. Each one contains at least one cancer fighting food that demonstrates anti-cancer effects.

All of our drink recipes are suitable for cancer patients and contain nutrient rich ingredients that are perfect during treatment. Below, we have listed some of the symptoms that can be caused by cancer treatment where you might benefit from trying some of our specially constructed drinks recipes.

Loss of Appetite

During cancer treatment, losing your appetite can be a common side effect. However, it’s vital to keep your nutrient levels and calories high to help you fight the disease.

Consuming nutrient rich or calorific drinks, such as smoothies or shakes, can be a great alternative to eating at those times when you can’t stomach solid foods.
Before making this change to your diet, it is important to speak to your health practitioner about the suitability of blended drinks like milkshakes, smoothies or commercial nutritional supplements for your condition.

Constipation

Some cancer treatments and medications can also cause constipation. We recommend drinking more liquids to help to alleviate this problem; aiming for at least 8- ounce glasses a day. Try some of our recipes for warm juices, decaffeinated teas and hot lemonade to aid your discomfort.

Stricture and Difficulty Swallowing

Other common side effects include stricture or having trouble swallowing foods and drinks. We recommend using our healthy drinks recipes to experiment with liquids of different viscosities that might make swallowing easier. For example, thicker drinks like milkshakes or smoothies might be easier to swallow if juices and water cause coughing and pain.

If you enjoy our drink recipes, why not try our soup recipes for a savory twist? With a variety of different thicknesses and packed full of nutrients, they are also perfect for cancer patients who are struggling with swallowing.
