Dr. James utilized caloric restriction in combination with low doses of etoposide (chemotherapeutic drug) followed by feeding as an experimental anticancer strategy to increase the sensitivity of mammary tumors to apoptosis and thus provide nutritional/ chemotherapeutic regimen to achieve higher levels of cancer cell killing in a rat model of chemically induced mammary cancer.
