Mechanism of Dietary Indoles in Prevention of Papillomavirus Induced Cancers (1995)

Title:

Mechanism of Dietary Indoles in Prevention of Papillomavirus Induced Cancers

Key words:

indole-3-carbinol, cruciferous vegetables, human papillomavirus

Research Institution:

Long Island Jewish Medical Center

Location:

New York

Researcher:

Karen J Auborn

Project Description:

Dr. Auborn investigated the role of indole-3-carbinol present in cruciferous vegetables (cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and Brussel sprouts) in preventing human papillomavirus tumors (HPV) and their progression. It was hypothesized that indoles, modulators of estrogen metabolism, will prevent growth of HPV-induced tumors and prevent their malignant conversion.
