Project Description:

Dr. Wang investigated the basic mechanisms by which retinoic acid can regulate gene expression, in particular the expression of the PDGF-A chain. PDGF is a major growth regulator for connective tissues and glial cells. Dr. Wang has shown that PDGF is over-expressed in malignant brain tumors and that retinoic acid blocks PDGF-A protein expression during cell differentiation. She expanded her studies on this activity of retinoic acid and its role as an anti-cancer agent.
