Project Description:

Dr. Basson studied the effect of butyrate and other short chain fatty acids that are produced by bacteria from dietary fiber on the growth and differentiation of human colon cancer cells. Dr. Basson will demonstrate whether butyrate alone will interfere with malignant transformation and whether it is selectively more potent than other short chain fatty acids in protecting against colon cancer.
