Project Description:

These investigations focused on the mechanisms by which the vitamin A derivative, retinoic acid, inhibits the expression of two anti-apoptotic proteins in human estrogen-dependent breast cancer cell lines and thereby promotes apoptosis of the cells. It also examined whether downregulation of expression of the respective genes by retinoic acid improves the cytotoxicity of several chemotherapeutic agents.
