Dr. Kang investigated whether introducing a gene encoding an n-3 fatty acid desaturase into human tumor cells in culture would decrease the levels of more undesirable n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids and increase n-3 fatty acids, thus providing an anticancer effect.
