About the Campaign
We have a public health crisis — the number of cancer cases due to obesity and lack of physical activity will reportedly surpass those due to tobacco in 20 years. Prevention has the potential to save costs and suffering — and we need to think broadly about it as an effective strategy.
To mark National Cancer Prevention Month in Feburary, every year the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) leads a campaign to spotlight how indivdiuals can reduce their cancer risk with lifestyle changes. The campaign, CANCER PREVENTION: TOGETHER WE CAN, is dedicated to presenting evidence-based user-friendly and interactive tools that educate and empower.
Research is based on the WCRF International Continuous Update Project (CUP), an ongoing global analysis of the research into the link between diet, physical activity, weight and cancer. The WCRF International CUP is conducted in partnership with the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR).
AICR is thankful for the numerous partner organizations and associations that team up with us to spread the powerful message of prevention.
Our Vision: We want to live in a world where no one develops a preventable cancer.
Our Mission: The American Institute for Cancer Research champions the latest and most authoritative scientific research from around the world on cancer prevention and survival through diet, weight and physical activity, so that we can help people make informed lifestyle choices to reduce their cancer risk.
We have contributed over $105 million for innovative research conducted at universities, hospitals and research centers across the country. Find evidence-based tools and information for lowering cancer risk, including AICR’s Recommendation for Cancer Prevention, at www.aicr.org.
